Hello all,
My PC is still running win 10 and has an i5 processor that is not compatible with Windows 11, (according to Microsoft compatibility checker).
I have not used my PC much recently as I use my laptop, however, I have an old Oscommerce website that is broken so I need to replace it and using my PC with 2 screens will help in the design process.
What are my options?
TIA Shaun
Sorry, reading through my original post my question is not well worded.
Is it easy and viable to update the processor, for win 11, do other components need to be replaced/updated, or should I just stick to win 10 as it is?
Hi Shaun
In order to upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11 you would need to meet MS requirements. If they are saying you have an incompatible processor then this would need to be upgraded, however other things may also need to be updated in that situation as well such as the mainboard. This really is going to depend on exactly what the current make up is of your PC components wise. Without knowing what the current system is, exactly what would need to be changed cannot be accurately determined. If you can give us a breakdown of the current spec of the PC we can see what sort of upgrades are needed.
Your other option is to remain on Windows 10 for now, however keep in mind that Windows 10 is coming to the end of support life later in the year and see MS will be stopping windows updates on this OS. In the short term not to much of an issue, but in the long term this could be an issue security wise if you new security bugs are discovered in windows 10 and Microsoft does not patch them. So short term you are ok so plenty of time to look at options and decide what you want to do, but longer term sticking with Windows 10 could be a problem depending on what this system is used for.
